The concept of a gothic style castle that was dimly lit in a dark world with dark teleports (to transport between levels) was centred around the deathmatch being battled out in the throne room and outside courtyard. The name Castle of Shadows hints at the kind of game player experience for multiplayers to hide in the dark spaces of the pillars, behind the terrain hills and if able to grab the invisibility ring they would stand the best chance at winning the game.
